Khan's team measured 609 men aged 16 to 90 across two hospitals near Edinburgh, prospectively and by clinician. It is the largest UK cohort ever measured this way and one of the largest in Europe, and the wide age range is a genuine strength — most studies on this site sample a single decade of life. The paper reports several different length measures taken from the same men, which is worth knowing when comparing it against studies that report only one.
